Between the Panels: Week In Review

btpbanner1Alright, true believers…ready to find out what’s worth your money this week? These short and sweet reviews will make it easy if you’re strapped for cash! So buckle up, kiddies, because here we go!

SoG5Batman: Streets of Gotham #5 – Ever since the death of Bruce Wayne there have been several comics to chose from to get your Batman fix, but this one concentrates on the world around Batman himself (imagine that…perhaps concentrating on the streets of Gotham?). This issue brings us on board with a so far random fight between Huntress and Man-Bat, and leaves you salivating at the end to find out what will happen next issue. The Manhunter 2nd feature is, admittedly, why I’ve been picking this one up on a regular basis, but for $3.99 you’re going to find something in here that you like!

G.I. Joe #10 – If you haven’t been reading this then you seriously need to get with the program. Whether you’re an old school G.I. Joe fan or had never even heard of it until the movie that was released this summer (there’s no connection between said movie and this particular line of comics, by the way), Chuck Dixon has taken the team and done some really great things with it. This issue is no exception. It picks up in the middle of an arc, but you can easily get into the story from here. Besides, you don’t want to miss the silent, but epic battle between Snake-eyes and an unnamed Cobra henchman! Another $3.99 book.

Spiderwoman #2 – Two words…”skip it.” The first one was entertaining but it didn’t take long to get annoying. I like Spiderwoman as much as the next gal, but between breaking down the 4th wall and Bendis’ need to use words where none are needed, it gets irritating really fast. It’s a shame because the Alex Maleev art is great…even if Jessica Drew has her mouth open in all but one panel. Have trouble drawing heroes with with mouths closed, do we?

Punisher Noir #3 – Awesome! The back issues of this are getting to be hard to find, so if you haven’t been reading thus far then you should wait until it comes out in trade form. Marvel’s Noir books can be hit and miss, but they’ve nailed it with the Punisher. Another #3.99 from your wallet!

Dark Avengers #10 – Another hit and miss book. The writer is trying to draw us in by seeing just how far Norman Osborn can be pushed before turning back into the Green Goblin, but he’s taking his sweet time. I will say that Venom’s “medication issues” make for some entertaining comments throughout this issue. Take it or leave it for $3.99.

Incredible Hercules #136 - Herc dressed as Thor? Thor dressed as Herc? Epic battle with witty banter between both!?? Can’t ask for more, really. Another keeper at $2.99.

UWvsHOn the trade collection front the only one worth it this week (which actuatly was last week) is Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk. The 6 issue miniseries started a few years ago then took a break after 2-3 issues and finally finished off this spring. All 6 issues are collected here in hardback form for $24.99.

Oh God, Ultimate Wolverine Vs Hulk was just such CRAP.

I mean seriously, when Wolverine is fighting a fucking panda with flowers instead of claws instead of the Hulk…I mean WTF MAN?!
