BTP – Rogue Reviews

105_the_black_knight_1I actually have a sort stack this week…first time in a while…

Black Knight #1 (One-Shot): HAVE AT YOU!!!  Wait…wrong story…this is an origin of the beloved British Marvel character, written by the legendary Tom DeFalco.  It’s nice to see since I was so sad when “Captain Britain & MI 13″ was canceled earlier this year, though this is a far cry from the modern Black Knight.  With his…somewhat effeminate…twin brother in tow, the Knight searches Camelot for the Ebony Blade to keep it out of the hands of Arthur’s nephew Modred.  It’s a fun, retro style, comic that’s worth the price if you like the Knight or classic style books.  $3.99.

Dark Avengers #11: What’s better than seeing Norman Osborn getting his face punched in?  How about seeing his team ripped apart molecule by molecule by none other than…say it with me…MOLECULE MAN!  The poor guy just wants to be left alone and what does Osborn do?  Try to talk him out of leaving the country.  Tisk tisk, Gobby.  And a guest appearance by artist Greg Horn makes the Sentry’s demise that much prettier.  $3.99.

X-Men Legacy #229: After borrowing Trance’s abilities so to be able to enter Emplate’s dimension to find Bling (you still following?), Rogue is attacked by ghost critters & running for her life.  I’ve got to say that she and Bling make a pretty bad-ass team in this issue.  Back in the real world, Gambit is having issues with his alter ego “Death”.  What’s a horseman of Apocalypse to do!??  $2.99.

Justice Society of America#1 (Giant Sized): Alright if you like the JSA, but it can be confusing and all over the place and corny, as most Giant Sized issues are.  Someone or something attacks the Brownstone and the team splits up into groups to figure out what’s going on. Each group has something weird and hallucinogenic happen to them before they come back together at the end. $5.99.

CNV-cover-issue2
Streets of Gotham #6: Guest writer Chris Yost has done a bang up job with this Huntress/Man-Bat story.  And Huntress’ inner dialogue is all kinds of entertaining.  I’ve said this before, but I originally started reading this title for the Manhunter 2nd feature (which is still totally worth the price of admission alone), but I may start paying more attention to the main story after this issue.  $3.99 & a must buy.

Cowboy Ninja Viking #2: How can you not want to read a title like that?  Our “hero”, Duncan, is basically a schizophrenic (guess what his personalities are) working for a counter-intelligence agency, hired on by a psychiatrist who runs the whole thing.  In this issue he’s chasing after another psycho, named Ammo, who thinks he’s a Roman gladiator/deep sea treasure hunter/pirate.  That works right?  Surprisingly enough it does, except for a very Pulp Fiction-esque moment near the end.  Not to mention Riley Rossmo’s art reminds me of old school Tank Girl comics, and that’s something you don’t see much anymore…keep in mind that it’s a good thing.  Well worth the $3.50.
