Rumor Mill: Google To Release Touch Tablet This November

The New York Post (I know a great source of information) is reporting that Google will be releasing a touch tablet to compete with the iPad this November 26th or Black Friday. Now before I go into this anymore please know that I have check other tech sites where I look for news and they have no reported on this once.

Alright so this supposed Google Tablet will be Flash-enabled and will feature 1280 x 720-pixel, multi-touch display, 2GB of RAM, at least 32GB of storage, GPS and a built-in camera. Now compare that to the 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology, 1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi) and 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB flash drive of the iPad and one has to start to question how true this is. Now the iPad does not feature and camera and you can download a GPS app that will work as long as you have the 3G version.

It should also be noted that Google is working with Verizon to develop this tablet so you can expect to see a data plan between the companies if this turns out to be true.

Not much is known about the price, but it is reported to cost less then $499, which is the cheapest iPad price, and no word if it will be running on Googles Android software.

To be totally honest I find it weird that Google would launch such a device on Black Friday and I can see that as a marketing and sales disaster. We’ll just have to see if this turnes out to be true or not.

Rumor Mill: PSP2 Being Shown To Developers

When ever a game convention rolls by rumors always come regarding a future Sony product. Given Sony’s track record with keeping secrets this may be of some interest to those that still use their PSP or PSPgo’s for something other than a dust collector or paperweight.

The long rumored PSP2 might actually be something more than fiction. According to Eurogamer three different development sources close to them have all have seen and played the “PSP2″ which sported first party games.

The major changes that would warrant a dubbing of the name “PSP 2″ would come from the feature that would change how games are controlled. Reportedly on the back of the “PSP2″ is a touch-sensitive area on the back of the unit.

Sony is said to already have a business model in the works for this new handheld and it will not include disc based games. Instead the system will continue in the footsteps of the PSPgo and have games fully supported by flash memory due to developer feedback. Until Sony shows some evidence of this being true this is definitely a rumor but a damn detailed one.

Rumor Mill: CoD: Black Ops Multi-Player To Have Subscription

Who likes subscription fees? Activision does and according to MVC via VG24/7 the video game publisher hopes to squeeze every last dollar out of your wallet. Despite Treyarch’s head honcho Josh Olin stating Activision is not making the multiplayer for the next Call of Duty installment subscription based rumors are abound and have increased since images of Modern Warfare 2 having subscription plans during development.

CoD: Black Ops multiplayer will fully be announced September 1st which industry analyst (yes, Pachter) believe the subscription announcement will be made. While gamers will shake their heads with disapproval the die hards will probably pay for the damn thing anyway. If you missed the teaser trailer for the multiplayer check it out below.

Rumor Mill: Nintendo 3DS Hitting This X-Mas

Looks like some good rumors are floating about regarding the latest 3D-enabled handheld. Nintendo was rather tight lipped when it came to a hard release date for the 3DS but rumors are pointing to a release just around the corner. According to VG24/7 the Nintendo 3DS will be obtainable roughly around Christmas in order to emulate the major success of the Wii.

There is a time frame for the release of the new handheld coming straight from the mouth of Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. Good ol’ Reggie is stating that we can expect the Nintendo 3DS to launch some time before the end of March 2011. Originally the March 2011 cut off date was reported to be specifically for the Japanese release but now has been confirmed for a world wide release. So now us Pokemon players might not have to wait as long as we thought for the new handheld because we all know most people by a Nintendo handheld primarily for Pokemon.

UPDATED – Rumor Mill: DCUO Not Free?

We reported awhile ago that the DC Comics based MMO will be free to play, but it is looking like Sony might be seeing dollar signs in their eyes. One of the more anticipated MMOs amongst The Nerdiest Kids staff, this bit of rumor news popping up is sure to make a few rage quit on a purchase. According to Meodia.com via VG24/7, Sony Online Entertainment will charge a monthly fee to the superhero MMO. Rumor has it that the game will charge a traditional fee of $14.99 a month. We originally reported that the game would instead use ingame advertising or microtransaction model to pay for the game instead. Recently other news outlets are reporting an unknown pricing structure which is now sure to make gamers (including myself) question a potential purchase.

Meodia is also reporting that the game is set to have a specific day of release as well. They are reporting the MMO will hit stores November 2. No confirmation from SOE at this time. Check back with NK for any updates or confirmation of this rumor.

***UPDATE***
One of the rumors is looking to be true but not the one concerning your wallet. In an interview with Comic Book Resources DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee stated that DC Universe Online will be hitting stores November 2nd. This may not be good news for gamers like myself who were hoping for a free to play service for the MMO.

Movie News Update: Marvel Movie Castings & Tropic Thunder Spinoff?

Gaming news is slow with E3 just around the corner but the movie industry doesn’t stop for anyone. Casting confirmations and rumors are flying around for some major Marvel Comics’ franchises. Looks like the cast for the upcoming Captain America film just got a plus one. The jewish scientists tasked with creating the super soldier serum and creditted with creating Captain America has been cast. Playing the role of Dr. Abraham Erskine will be Oscar nominated actor Stanley Tucci of Peter Jackson’s Lovely Bones.

Spider-Man reboot castings have been heavy in the rumor mill. It is time to add another name to the list of potential actors set to play Peter Parker. Many may recognize him as the Scottish teleporter from Jumper. According to Bleeding Cool news Sony has decided on Jamie Bell to take up the web shooters for the Spidey reboot. Again with no confirmation this is just a rumor.

Fans of Tropic Thunder look to be getting a spinoff. After Tom Cruise went batshit crazy all over Oprah’s couch people were more concerned with his battle with Xenu than any of his films. Then comes Tropic Thunder. Pulling off one of the most random and hilarious cameos ever was Tom Cruise. Over the weekend Tom Cruise reprised his role at the Twilight(MTV) Movie Awards again being hilarious. When asked by E! about the possibility of a film based on Les Grossman he said “We’re working on it.”

Rumor Mill: PSN+ Announcement at E3

The Playstation Network has one advantage over Xbox Live. It is free for the consumer. On the the other hand Xbox Live offers a variety of services to enhance your experience with your system beyond the gaming features. The revenue that Microsoft is making off our gaming habits (it is not an addiction, an addiction means its a problem!) would make any competitor’s eyes green with envy. Rumors are flying around that Sony is going to cave in and start their own premium service but will still keep their current free services intact. Called PSN+ the rumored premium service is set to have an approximate subscription fee of $9.99. Here is a list of services attached to PSN+:

- Access to a rotating list of PSP Minis and PSone Classics
- Exclusive in-game DLC
- Discounts to the PlayStation Store
- “First hour” demo access to full retail titles
- PlayStation Protection Plan
- Cross-game voice chat
- Cloud-based saving system

The only reason this should be given any serious amount of thought is because of what happened prior to last year’s E3. Sony had the worst kept secret with the PSP Go and with E3 coming up soon a repeat of last years snafu is quite possible.

Godzilla Design for New Movie?

A little over a month ago, information about a new Godzilla movie was announced. Most of us were wondering what they were going to do with his look this time, whether it’s the old version updated for a new audience or an entirely new appearance (hopefully different than the 1998 version).

Anyways, some images of a Godzilla model were found online. The rumor is that this is one of the models they’re considering for the King of the Monsters.

Remember the last time an image ‘leaked’? It was the TMNT mask, which turned out to be nothing more than an awesome school project. I hope it’s a look for Godzilla, though. I’m really liking it. What do you guys think? Good or bad look? It has to be better than the velociraptor that was 1998, right?

New Look for the Ninja Turtles?!

A new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is supposed to come out in the next few years. I grew up watching the first two live-action films almost daily because I was just that cool. But that’s beside the point.

It seems a prototype for the new look of the Ninja Turtles hit the internet today. It looks…different. I’m not going to complain, because I completely understand what they’re trying to do. It actually looks more like a turtle (a sea turtle specifically) than the originals did.

I don’t know how I feel about this yet. I’ll have to wait, as it is just a prototype (if it’s even real). How do you guys feel about this look?

EDIT: Turns out the image is quite real, but it’s not for the film. It’s a project from Eric Z., a student in Tom Savini’s make-up/effects program. It looks good. I was actually starting to hope it might be from the film.

And Tom Savini is a god with make-up and effects.

Rumors: Marvel VS Capcom 3 In The Works

Many fans of Marvel VS Capcom 2, including myself, will be happy if this rumor comes true. Coming straight from Team Spooky, the guys that rumored the line up for Super Street Fighter 4 and got it right, are stating that their sources confirm that Capcom is working on a sequel to a game that’s caused me many blisters. The group says the game will be unveiled some time in May but Kotaku and VG24/7 are both stating that an announcement is more likely next week at Capcom’s meet-up press event in Hawaii.

If this comes to be true then many questions are being raised. Will the game have a 3D artstyle like Street Fighter 4 and Capcom VS Tatsunoko or will they return to the 2D animated artstyle like its predecessors? Who will be on the line up and will the line up be as extensive?
