Have You Heard?: tU pHAce

It’s been awhile since NK has introduced a song, album or artist to keep an eye on and we hope to end 2009 with a bang. Many of the “Have You Heard?” articles have been focused on alternative rock/indie bands. Finally, a long awaited change of pace, as well as an introduction, to those unfamiliar with an NK friend and favorite artist. Introducing to the uninformed, the newly signed to Epic Records and Philly born: tU pHAce.

How do you describe the genre or style of tU pHAce music? One word: awesome. No, this isn’t fan service ass kissing. His music is truly diverse and is hard to pin down into one distinct genre. The music most definitely can fit under the hip-hop attitude. Even more specifically, progressive hip-hop. No bouncing asses, gun glorification, or flashy chains found here. tU pHAce’s rhymes focuse on themes like fame, progress, and the music.

Hip-Hop music (Hip-Hop is a culture, the music refers to Rap and R&B), is often considered one note and typical. It wasn’t until an artist like Kanye West showed the diversity, cross breeding, and expansion of hip hop music. In that respect, tU pHAce’s music is an amalgamation of different genres throughout music. Tracks like “Look Away” and “Hollywood Lights”are inspired by and utilize electro synth pop, while tracks like “Rock Ur Dance”,”Flash”, and ” LA DI DA” mesh the electro vibes with a live band that is a sound somewhere in between hip-hop bands The Roots and Gym Class Heroes. Yet gems like “Columbus Day” show his range and love for music as the song is heavily alternative rock and the farthest thing from what many consider hip hop.

tU pHAce’s music shows the passion, drive, and love for the art. If you guys want to hear more check out the following links below as well as a performance of “Flash” at the TLA in Philadelphia:
