Playstation 3 is getting Netflix. But it’s a weird type of Netflix. You only have to pay the standard Netflix fee of $8.99 per month but the weird thing is you have to use a special disc that Netflix will send you to stream the content.
Here’s the deal. Netflix will send you a free, instant streaming Blu-Ray disc that will allow you access the Netflix interface and stream movies and TV shows instantly. I’m not entirely sure how this works yet. Whether the disc must be in the PS3 to stream or whether you just install it and you’re done. Either way the disc is free.

Personally I like physical media because if I pay for something I want to be able to touch it. But I know a lot of people love Netflix on their Xbox 360 and this might be a big step for Sony in getting back some of the market they lost. But for me I’ll just keep buying my Blu-Ray discs.
*Update* If you managed to pre-order this, you probably have your disc already. Again I’m sticking to physical media. But if you like Netflix and only own PS3, then this is your time to shine.

You would want to be able to touch it. haha.
Pretty damn sweet. Probably not gonna use this but still cool.
I can only picture the disk as being an install and not required to watch movies with. That would be weird if you were required to have a blank disk in your system to stream movies.
Good move on Sony’s part to snatch this up before Nintendo.
