When is Hollywood (not me) going to learn to stop giving way either all the plot points or action within a trailer? This past weekend I saw Legion and I honestly wasn’t surprised that I knew just about 90% of what was going to happen in this movie before it even started.
As I stated before, if you have seen the trailer or trailers (I don’t think they did more than one) for Legion then you know what this movie is about and what is going to happen. If you don’t know what this movie is about let me give you a little synopsis. Basically God loses faith in humanity and decides that he is going to whip out it’s existence by sending his Legion (see what I did there) of Angels to oxyclean earth. However, one of his main generals, Michael (Paul Bettany), feels that humanity deserves a fighting chance so he cuts off his wings and gathers an arsenal that Rambo would jizz his pants over.
From there we meet our cast of middle of nowhere diner refugees which include Jeep Hanson (Lucas Black), Charlie (Adrianne Palicki), Bob Hanson (Dennis Quaid), Kyle Williams (Tyrese Gibson), Percy Walker (Charles S. Dutton), and Audrey Anderson (Willa Holland). Most of these people have no idea who the other is, yet they have to come together to fight off the apocalypse and save humanity by saving Charlies baby. From there you can guess what happens and how this movie ends.
With the plot out of the way lets talk about the movie itself.
It honestly seemed like 99% of the actors in this film were just doing this as something to kill time and get a pay check. Lucas Black came off as the only one who really tried to make the character his own, but then again it was his southern accent that only really gave the character definition. Paul Bettany brought Michael to life, but his character was nothing but horrible one liners and no facial expression at all. I guess everyone realized that this was a pretty bad movie before or as they were shooting.
The one thing I liked was the direction and honestly that is what kept me entertained. Through the film there are certain shots that I loved and agreed that they were the right choice.
Overall, Legion is a pretty blah movie. In some aspects it should have probably been a straight to DVD release (like it’s sequel will be), but with the cast that it had behind it that wasn’t an option. I would wait until it’s released on DVD/ Blu-Ray, Netflix, or premium cable channel to see it because you really aren’t missing that much.
I’m surprised you went to see this movie Rob…it looked like a shitty movie. Too bad you couldn’t ask for you money back after you saw it….haha
