Rumor Mill: Hawkeye Targeting The Avengers?

We are still two and half years away from The Avengers movie and the rumors about more heroes joining the fight will be picking up as time draws closer. However, I came across this little piece of news making my morning twitter rounds (Thanks to Travis from We Are Movie Geeks).

Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, S.W.A.T) has come out to address a rumor that he has been cast as Hawkeye. Renner said, “The last I knew is that they still have to find their director for ‘The Avengers,’ that’s where he’s[Hawkeye] really going to show up. They were just talking, ‘Like maybe we should consider maybe hiring Hawkeye now’ but there’s no director on ‘Avengers’ so they don’t really want to force-feed the director, ‘Here’s the whole cast.’ It’s a big role so they didn’t want to do that to the director, so I think they might wait. I know they’re interested, I’m interested, so we’ll see if it works out.”

I have been a fan of Jeremy since I saw him in National Lampoon’s Senior Trip and think he might be able to pull off Clint Barton.
