Simone Drops “Wonder Woman” to Relaunch “Birds of Prey”

I know what you’re thinking: “Rogue, this is old news.  We’ve known about this for months.”  Yes, yes…but did you know who’s picking up where she leaves off?  DID YOU!??  No, I didn’t think so .  So I’m here to tell you that J. Michael Straczynski is gonna pick up the slack on Wonder Woman, and he’s also going to be writing for Superman, both starting in July.

I’ll be honest…I’m really sad that Gail Simone will be leaving Wonder Woman because it’s been one of my favorite ongoing titles.  There are two bonus’ to this, however: we’re getting Birds of Prey back with both Gail and Ed Benes (woohoo!), and Straczynski-the-Great writing Wonder Woman stories.  I was devastated when I heard he was leaving Thor, but he left for good reasons (not wanting to get involved in Bendis’ love child, Siege) so I can’t hold it against him.  I am, however, very happy that he’s taking over for Gail because there are precious few people I would trust to keep the current story and character base going in a way that would still be worth reading.

As for Gail relaunching Birds of Prey…HORAY!!  I’m not the only one who’s excited, I’m sure.  It’s especially exciting because there are so few chick comics left with their own titles (Power Girl, Wonder Woman, Gotham City Sirens…and most of the Marvel titles have been canceled) and I feel like they’re getting shafted.  The new title is being released May 19th and, as I said before, Straczynski’s Wonder Woman and Superman will come out in July.  All of these titles will be part of DC’s “Brightest Day.”
