The MMO Update – Its Been a While

Yeah, its been about a month since the last update, but I am finally making sure that we are going to be getting the updates out on time. Just to clarify, the MMO Update is not going away but it is changing from its scheduled release dates. Originally, the article series was supposed to be released every Saturday before GUN but it shall be released usually Friday afternoon every other week. I regret to report that I am no longer going to support the Lord of the Rings MMO due to the support for the game has dramatically dropped and no one has seeked any interest in the MMO or acknowledged interest. Other than that there will be updates to which games when updates are due to them; instead of giving just the latest news on each game I’ll pick out which updates are relevant since some MMOs only put out small and pointless updates all the time. Without further delay, this is The MMO Update.

Blood Moon has come and gone and with what I watched FLitz played, it looked like fun. Next year I hope to jump online and play along side of him as long as I’m not occupied with another MMO.

Just on Tuesday, Cryptic Studios released the Champedia to all players. As Cryptic put it, the Champedia is a central database for all Champions Online in-game data which will include different characters, super groups, missions and powers. Making it easier to manage your different characters, you’ll be able to guide yourself through the different power trees. The champedia is web-based so you will be required to be on the internet to access the database.

After all this villany defeated, Nemesis approaches:

Coming out Fall 2010, this new Star Wars MMO will definitely be better than Galaxies. With all the announcements that have come out in the last month, I am starting to become more hyped for the Star Wars MMO over the Star Trek MMO. Three new issues in the comic prequel have been released to the website alongside two new classes and a holorecord.

To set up the holorecord, here is a preview for it that was written on the preview article for the video:

A new holorecord in the Jedi Archive captures a poignant moment in the Republic’s recent history. Master Gnost-Dural recounts the story of the battle of Bothawui—a battle in which the courage and sacrifice of Jedi and Republic forces scored a major victory against the Sith Empire.

I highly suggest you check out the webcomic if you haven’t already because it is setting up the universe for when you enter it in Fall 2010. Equipped with some of the best tech in the Galaxy, the Imperial Agents are going to be one of the most difficult types of soldiers to fight off. Using covert abilities and advanced technology, Imperial Agents are going to be someone that you are going to want to do your research for with the Holonet. On the other end of the spectrum, the Jedi Knights have been around for thousands of years and know exactly how to take the villainy out of the enemy or take the enemy out. For a full in-depth report of the Jedi, check out this Holonet.

For those who like calenders and still haven’t picked one up for 2010, get the Guild Wars 2010 Calendar. A lot of people are probably thinking, “WOW WAY TO JACK US OF OUR DOUGH YO!” All the proceeds from the calendar go directly to the Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Anyone who buys the calendar are entered into a drawing for a free boxed copy of the Guild Wars Trilogy. For more information check GuildWars2.com and MMOCalendar.com. Below, check out one of the new wallpapers for the game. Click the picture to get all different sizes and formats of different art work for Guild Wars.

Okay, do you want to know the official release date for the full retail game? February 2nd for North America and February 5th for Europe. That’s only about 9 weeks away!!! Along with announcing the release date, the system requirements for the game have been released and it doesn’t look like the game will be that demanding for users that have an old computer. Just yesterday, Kotaku posted 12 new screenshots and they look pretty. Throughout the section of the article, you’ll find some of these screenshots along with other news items.

StarTrekOnline.com has revamped the website with a complete makeover. Check it out if you haven’t been there in the last week. For those people, starship combat is  going to be one of the most intense part of the games and it’s definitely one of the  things that I am most eager to do after I get the game. Posted by IGN.com, this video will show players what they will be capable of to customize their different systems that reflect combat situations. Whether it is the engineering officers working on upgrades for the impulse engines or using different ships abilities to render enemy ships defenses useless within a few seconds of combat, this video is a must-watch for anyone interested in the game.

Probably the most exciting news item to come of the this section of the article is the announcement of the dates for the open beta. Seemingly, the closed beta has already started if they already have the open beta dates confirmed. By the way, the dates are January 12th to the 26th. Just thought you would want to know.
