What To Get Your Nerd For X-Mas: Games Edition!

lbpxmasSo, Christina “RogueNurse” Weber told you what to get comic book fans and toy collectors for Christmas. But, what about the gamers out there? What should you get them for X-Mas? Well, this list of games will surely put a smile on their face if they get any of these this X-Mas. And if they aren’t happy with their games, just drop kick them in the face. It works every time. Anyways, lets start this list off with Playstation 3 games!



Playstation 3
Uncharted 2: Among Thievesuncharted_2_final_box_art – In this intense third person action game, you are Nathan Drake. You’ll be looking for Marco Polo’s treasure but, you’ll be in for a ride as you fight to survive a war criminal. This has a movie-feel to it as you are running from a giant truck, having shootouts on a moving train, and being in a collapsing building. Also, you’ll be able to play against people online in the multiplayer mode. This game is for anyone that wants a great action game.


Ratchet  & Clank Future: A Crack In Time - Looking for a platform that has some action? If you are, this is the game for you. You’ll be playing as Ratchet and Clank. As Ratchet, you’ll be jumping and shooting your way through planets to find your robotic friend and to defeat the evil Dr. Nefarious. As Clank, you’ll be solving puzzles and saving time itself. Even if the person hasn’t played a Ratchet & Clank game before, they have to play this game. It’s the perfect blend of puzzles, platforming, and blastin’ action that anyone can love.


killzone-2-box-artKillzone 2 - With the first Killzone coming out 5 years ago, Killzone 2 takes a big step in the franchise. You play as Sev, a veteran that goes onto the Helghast home planet and raises hell. Aside from the single player campaign, the multiplayer is where it’s at. With a strong online community and downloadable content, you can spend hours shooting up the opponents online. Also, the visuals of the game are amazing and unlike any other game out on the market. If you have a PS3 and need a shooter besides Modern Warfare 2, this is the game to get.

Xbox 360
Forza Motorsport 3 – XBox 360’s biggest racing game is here and it is pretty damn big. For racing fans, you will have a cargasm with over 400 cars in the game. You can tune the cars and are able to customize the paint job to your liking. There are limitless customization options. There is also plenty of modes that will keep you in the driver’s seat. There is a single player season mode that will have you doing different events like drag racing, drifting, and much more. Also, the online for this game is excellent. With the brand new game rules editor, every online game you play can be completely different every time. This game is for true car junkies out there.


Halo 3: ODSThaloodstbox – If you want to get deeper into the Halo universe, this game is a must-have. During the events of Halo 2, a part of the city of New Mombasa was destroyed. Halo 3: ODST focuses on the aftermath and puts you into fight in a Covenant occupied area. But, it’s not that simple. You, The Rookie, must find your squadmates after you crash land. The campaign has 4 player co-op so, you and your friends can play through the story together. There is a new mode called Firefight, where hordes of Covenant are sent to attack you and you must defend the area for as long as you can. Also included with ODST, a disc that has the Halo 3 multiplayer and all of its downloadable content. So if that person doesn’t have all the DLC or sold their copy of Halo 3, you will still be able to play the Halo 3 multiplayer. All Halo fans should get this.


Ninja Blade – This game has been overshadowed by the bigger games this year but, this is a great title for action fans. In this cinematic action game, you are Ken. He’s a modern day ninja that needs to take care of hordes of monsters that are taking over the city. You’ll be hacking and slashing your way through the enemies with a variety of weapons and skills. Also, there are quick time events, much like God Of War, but with a cinematic twist. You won’t be watching most of the cutscenes, you’ll be interacting with it. So if you are looking for a hack-and-slash game with ninjas, big ass swords, and nasty looking monsters, Ninja Blade is the game to get.

Nintendo Wii

But, they aren’t alone on their adventure. You can have up to 4 players at once on screen working together or against each other. There are new items and mushrooms that give you power-ups to help you through the levels. This is classic Mario platforming but, upgraded with new items and co-op gameplay. Whoever has a Wii laying around, must add this to their collection no matter what. It’s Mario, man! C’mon!





Dead Space: Extraction – This is the prequel to 2008’s action survival game, Dead Space. In Extraction, you’ll be playing through the events that lead up to Dead Space. You’ll be on board the USG Ishimura defending yourself against the nasty necromorphs. Unlike the other game, this is all in a first-person perspective which, captures the intense action even more. You’ll be shooting your way through plenty of necromorphs as you dismember them strategically. You won’t have to go alone in this adventure either. You and a friend can shoot up necromorphs and survive. If anyone is looking for a mature game on the Wii and loved Dead Space, this is the game for them.


Punch-Out!!punchoutboxart – People have been waiting for another Punch-Out game for a while and it is finally here. Punch-Out!! for the Wii brings you the same fun gameplay from the original game but, adds more to the game. The graphics are updated, more opponents were added, and you get to use the Wiimote and Nunchuk. If someone wants a challenge or wants to punch the crap out of some crazy characters, this is the game to get.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (PSP & Nintendo DS) – If you have a mature gamer that wants to play Grand Theft Auto on the go, Chinatown Wars is the perfect game. The story is about betrayal, revenge, and violence within the Triad crime syndicate. Like the GTA 1 & 2, Chinatown Wars has an overhead view but, still packs a punch like the most recent GTA games. You’ll be getting different type of missions and will have different mini-games like hot wiring a car or selling drugs. This is for mature gamers only so, don’t get it for the kids. Other than that, it’s the perfect handheld game for GTA lovers.


scribblenautsboxartScribblenauts (Nintendo DS) – If you ever wanted to write any word (that isn’t trademarked) and have it actually come to life, then Scribblenauts is the game for you. In this game, you will have to solve many puzzles with words. You can think of any way to complete the puzzle. Just think of any items to complete the puzzle, write them in and boom! The less words you use, the better your score. It is a very simple concept but, it plays out great and the graphics are very cartoon-like which is a good thing. This game is for the creative puzzle solvers out there.





Patapon 2 (PSP) – If you are looking for an unique game that is a bit of action, resource management, and music in it, Patapon 2 is that game. You don’t need to play the first game to understand the story of Patapon 2. In this game, you control the Patapon and help them find the ruins of Patapolis. You’ll have to do certain button commands to have them move and attack but, each command has a certain rhythm to them. These will get stuck in your head for a while. There is also multiplayer maps so, you and a buddy can play. At 20 dollars, this is a cheap but great gift for anyone that has a PSP.

You can customize everything about your character. You can choose your powers, create costumes from scratch, and even create your arch nemesis. You’ll be running around Millennium City and other locations to stop evil in its tracks. There is a monthly fee for this game so sure to stock up on gamecards and make sure that your computer can handle the game. Other than that, this game is for everyone superhero fan out there.


Aion: The Tower Of Eternity – Need a new MMO to play? WoW doesn’t feel like it used to? Why not try out Aion: The Tower Of Eternity. This game has what most MMOs have. Character and class customization, quests, professions, PvP, and more. But, what sets Aion apart from other MMOs is the graphics. The characters can look straight from an anime or or a Final Fantasy game. Also, every character can earn wings to fly around at level 10. The environments look beautiful as well. There is a monthly fee with this game so be sure to get gamecards and make sure your computer can handle it. This game is for people looking for an MMO to try out.


sims3boxThe Sims 3 – The Sims are back in their 3rd installment in the franchise. Everything has been upgraded and everything is customizable. Every Sim has its own personality and you can go out into the neighborhood around you. There is also an expansion pack called World Adventures where you can travel the world with your Sims. So if you know anyone that loves to manage and boss people around, The Sims 3 is the perfect game for them.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Playstation 3, XBox 360, PC) – If you have someone that loves first-person shooters, you know you have to get them this game. Modern Warfare 2 is the sequel to 2007’s Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and it does not disappoint. In the single player campaign, you’ll be in for an epic roller coaster ride of violence, betrayal, and revenge. In Spec-Ops mode, you have a variety of missions that you can do to earn stars. The higher the difficulty, the more stars you get. With the story and Spec-Ops mode being great, the multiplayer is where it’s at. Expanding on the multiplayer from CoD4, Infinity Ward adds in more killstreaks, perks, challenges, and more. You’ll be spending endless hours trying to rank up and gain weapons. This game is for everyone that loves action and first-person shooters.


Street Fighter 4 (Playstation 3, XBox 360, PC)street-fighter-iv-xbox-360-box-art-front – The fighting juggernaut is back and it’s better than ever! Street Fighter 4 keeps the solid gameplay from the Street Fighter 2 but, enhances it with super and ultra finishers, focus moves, and more. Perfect time to get it for that special fighter.


DJ Hero (Playstation 3, XBox 360, Nintendo Wii) – Looking for something new in music games? Need a break from those guitar and drum peripherals? Take a spin with DJ Hero. Unlike other music games these days, DJ Hero puts you behind the turntable and lets you be a mix master. With 94 tracks made just for this game, you’ll get to hear mixes that include the Gorillaz, The Killers, David Bowie, and many more artists. You’ll have to get use to the new turntable peripheral but, the easy tutorials will help you through the process. Also if you have a Guitar Hero controller, you can hook it up and play along with some of the mixes. If someone wants to try something new or loves music, DJ Hero is the game for them.
