Yesterday, the internet was lit up when an incomplete version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine was leaked onto Torrent sites. Within minutes of being up, the movie was downloaded over ten thousand times, and later on in the day, eighty thousand. Pre-leak, the word about this movie was that it would be complete trash. After the leak, some people loved it, while others hated it. The bigger question here is how did the movie get leaked? Who was the initial source?
An FBI investigation is saying that the copy was stolen March 31 from the ‘cutting room floor’. A FOX representative says whoever uploaded this “will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law”. If you ask me, somethings up. How does, what’s considered, a major motion picture get leaked with all the security surrounding it? Perhaps FOX is trying to make us look like the bad guys.
Now, hear me out. When X-Men Origins: Wolverine was announced, several comic book fans shrugged off the idea. How would they pack a character with over 40+ years of kicking-ass in comics into 2 hours? There really is no way, so this was doomed from the start.
Shooting came and went. Test footage was shown to some screeners, which they didn’t find too entertaining. So, they went back for re-shoots, including more of Deadpool. It sounded good, until the action figure for “The Merc with a Mouth” went public. The bastardized version of Deadpool made fans furious. Here on NK, we’ve broken down just how bad they ruined your childhood.
I’ve come to a conclusion that is a little out there, but could be the reason for the leak: FOX did this intentionally. ‘Why?’ you ask? If the film bombs, they’re gonna blame it on the internet community. It will go something along the lines of this:
Due to the leak of the working version in April, X-Men Origins: Wolverine sales weren’t as strong as projected. We need to crackdown on Piracy Laws blah blah blah
But there’s also an easier reason to grasp why they could of leaked it. Editing purposes. FOX wants to please the fans with this movie. They know it’s already being hated by comic book readers, so why not mold it to their liking. Simple phrases like “It needed more Gambit” can add more ‘unused’ footage of him in it. FOX could be doing something very sneaky here, but in a good way. I have yet to see it, but everyone should keep in mind that the version they watched was unfinished.
